| Movie Review: Beau Travail Story: This French import from writer/director Claire
Denis (Chocolat) is a pointless mess. Beau Travail
means good work in French (at least that's what the subtitle said),
but I don't think so. It is very loosely based on Melville's
Billy Budd,' has practically no dialogue, there is an ever
present narrator, no real story and no beginning, middle or end. The
good thing is we are able to watch some very hard bodied young French
Foreign Legionnaires doing their drills-running, shoveling, fighting,
swimming, sweating, etc. If you enjoy watching young men doing some
pointless exercises and engage in some semi-homoerotic stuff in the
African desert, this film is for you. For everyone else, stay home.
Acting: Like the acting in exercise videos
Pets: Camels
Visual Art: Nice vast African desert
Soundtrack: Pretentious
Length: 90 minutes (Thankfully)
LOBO HOWLS: 2
