Movie Review: Double Hour

Alternate Title: Parallel Reality

Story: First time director Giuseppe Capotondi hits one out of the park in this film noir, mystery/thriller that keeps you both on the edge of your seat and also pondering what the heck is really happening.

Hotel chambermaid Sonia meets former cop Guido at a speed dating event. The story starts with a suicide and includes deception, misdirection, delusion, red herrings, hauntings and surprises galore. I won't tell you more about the plot (that would be a real spoiler) other than to say that you need to pay attention and will be rewarded for your efforts. The film was written by Alessandro Fabbri, Ludovica Rampoldi and Stefano Sardo.

Acting: Ksenia Rappoport as Sonia is amazing. She nails this part. Filippo Timi as Guido, is also terrific. A fine supporting cast including, Antonia Truppo, Gaetano Bruno, Fausto Russo Alesi, Michele Di Mauro, Lucia Poli and Giorgio Colangeli.

Predilection: I like film noir.

Trivia: Both Ksenia Rappoport and Filippo Timi won best acting awards at the 2009 Venice Film festival for their work in this film. Ksenia Rappoport is a Russian born actress. She also looks like the girl in Vermeer's Girl With the Pearl Earing.
